In the lead up to the 31st Session of the IOC Assembly, a series of thematic webinars to update Member States on progress achieved since 2019 across its programmes and projects were organized between 31 May and 11 June. These webinars give IOC Member States, Observers and the larger ocean science and management community an opportunity to gather detailed information on IOC's programmatic activities first-hand from members of the IOC Secretariat and external speakers.

A webinar on IOC in the Regions: Key Developments, held on 7 June 2021, provided an overview of the key developments on the contribution of Regional Subsidiary Bodies (RSBs) to the IOC’s global mission as regional foci. It featured four presentations from IOCARIBE, WESTPAC, IOCAFRICA and IOCINDIO on major achievements and challenges in their respective regions and a short discussion on how RSBs and IOC global programmes could work collectively to increase the capacity of Members States.
